LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring LeeAnn Owens upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Rensselaer County YMCAs Outstanding
Student and Educator Award, on Wednesday March 26, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in accord with its long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor LeeAnn
Owens upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Rensse-
laer County YMCAs Outstanding Student and Educator Award, to be cele-
brated on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Hudson Valley Community
College Bulmer Telecommunications Conference Center in Troy, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The 9th Annual YMCA Rensselaer County Student and Educator
Awards honor those teachers and scholars who demonstrate outstanding
service to their schools and communities while embracing the YMCA's core
values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; and
WHEREAS, LeeAnn Owens has embodied these values, volunteering her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors, and giving of
herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Tamarac High School, LeeAnn Owens is a member of
the honor roll and a tri-sport athlete in varsity volleyball, basketball
and track and field; thanks to her contributions, her basketball and
volleyball teams both captured the Wasaren League championships this
year; and
WHEREAS, LeeAnn Owens has displayed a strong commitment to giving back
to her school and community through her volunteer efforts; she has
played an active role in Tamarac High School's Class Council and Student
Senate, while also serving as vice president of its Students Against
Drunk Driving (S.A.D.D.) chapter; and
WHEREAS, LeeAnn Owens has selflessly performed over 100 hours of
community service in her school's Key Club; she was elected Key Club
Division 18 Lieutenant Governor in January 2014; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young woman has also been an outstanding
contributor to the YMCA, most recently as a Counselor in Training at the
organization's Camp Chingachgook; she served as a leader and role model
for young campers, teaching numerous skills classes, including rock
climbing, canoeing and farm and animal care; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
LeeAnn Owens represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor LeeAnn Owens upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Rensselaer County YMCAs Outstanding Student and Educator Award;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to LeeAnn Owens.
