LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Tyler Barton upon the occasion of
his selection to compete in the 2014 United States Skiing Association's
Junior National Competition in Stowe, Vermont

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplish-
ments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Tyler Barton
upon the occasion of his selection to compete in the 2014 United States
Skiing Association's Junior National Cross-Country Championship on March
1-9, 2014, in Stowe, Vermont; and
WHEREAS, The United States Skiing Association's (USSA) Junior National
Competition is a major event in American winter sports and serves as a
proving ground for those competitors seeking gold in the Junior Olympics
and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Tyler Barton, through his hard work and determination, has
joined this select group composed of the best young cross-country skiers
in the nation; after the event, he was ranked 68th in the nation; and
WHEREAS, A student at Wallkill High School in Wallkill, New York,
Tyler Barton is the Nordic Skiing Section 9 NYSPHAA Champion, and is
only the fourth person from his school to qualify to compete at the
Junior Nationals; and
WHEREAS, Tyler Barton has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, and has established standards of excellence,
purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful
years; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people who represent their community with pride and determination while
participating in competitive sports are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Tyler Barton upon the occasion of his selection to compete in
the 2014 United States Skiing Association's Junior National Competition
in Stowe, Vermont; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tyler Barton.
