LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring William Batz upon the occasion of his
induction into the Warwick Valley Boys Basketball Hall of Fame by the
Warwick Valley Central School District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William Batz upon the occasion of his induction into the Warwick Valley
Boys Basketball Hall of Fame by the Warwick Valley Central School
District; the Warwick Valley High School Boys Basketball Program held
their 5th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, January 17,
2014; and
WHEREAS, William Batz is a member of the Warwick Valley Boys Basket-
ball Hall of Fame Class of 2014; this outstanding athlete's efforts,
commitment, and past accomplishments on the hardwood have helped shape
the history of the Wildcats, Warwick Valley Boys Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, A 1971 graduate of Warwick Valley High School, William Batz
was a two-year starter and three-year varsity basketball player from
1968 to 1971, playing under Hall of Fame Coach Vito Magdelinskas; and
WHEREAS, The only junior to make the team, William Batz helped lead
the 1969-70 basketball team to the Section IX play-offs; and
WHEREAS, During the 1970-71 season of his illustrious high school
basketball tenure, William Batz averaged 16.8 points a game, and scored
a career high of 32 points in a game against Seward High School; he was
also selected as the Most Valuable Player of the team; and
WHEREAS, William Batz was one of the top defensive players in both the
Orange County League and Section IX during his junior and senior
seasons; and
WHEREAS, His most well-known basketball moments were a game against
Port Jervis High School as he held Rich Saul, the Section IX leading
scorer who averaged 32 points per game, to 7 points as he played him
straight man-to-man defense, and his final high school game victory
against perennial powerhouse John S. Burke High School in double over-
time; and
WHEREAS, Athletes like William Batz provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-
athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, William Batz has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of the Warwick Valley Central School District, as well as on the commu-
nity-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for his
impressive dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William Batz upon the occasion of his induction into the Warwick
Valley Boys Basketball Hall of Fame by the Warwick Valley Central School
District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William Batz.
