LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Theta Gamma Sigma Capital District
Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its 18th Annual Youth Symposium
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in fill accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Theta Gamma Sigma Capital District Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Soror-
ity, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 18th Annual Youth Symposium
on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York,
in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., gives leadership, service,
and resources toward removing barriers and inequalities so that all
people of America may develop their potential and exercise full citizen-
ship; and
WHEREAS, On December 1, 1995, six sophisticated ladies chartered Theta
Gamma Sigma Capital District Alumnae Chapter (TGS) in Albany, New York;
Sorors Areatha Fryar, Valerie Mallard, Nichole Michaels, Anilsa Nunez,
Samantha Sampson and Claudia Wint, also known as Legacy Six, worked
selflessly to build a foundation that has surpassed all expectations and
has excelled at promoting sisterhood, scholarship and service; and
WHEREAS, TGS assisted in the chartering of an undergraduate chapter in
the Capital District; in the spring of 1996, with the help of TGS, five
young ladies chartered Xi Omega Chapter at Union College in Schenectady,
New York; since being chartered, TGS has also played an active role in
advising the Lambda Omega undergraduate chapter at the University at
Albany in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored in conjunction with and in commemoration of Sigma
Week, the Sigma Youth Symposium focuses on some of the prevalent
concerns that negatively impact the youth, including: drugs, teen
violence, abuse, low self-esteem, suicide, teen pregnancy, and so forth;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Theta Gamma Sigma Capital District Chapter of Sigma Gamma
Rho Sorority, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 18th Annual Youth
Symposium; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Theta Gamma Sigma Capital District Chapter of Sigma Gamma
Rho Sorority, Inc.
