LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mark J. McCarthy upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award by
the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Mark J. McCarthy has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mark J. McCar-
thy upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Volun-
teer of the Year Award by the Northeastern Association of the Blind at
Albany, to be celebrated at a ceremony on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at
the Franklin Plaza Ballroom in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1908, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at
Albany (NABA) has provided comprehensive services and programs to resi-
dents of the greater Capital Region who are blind or visually impaired;
they have helped individuals of all ages across 14 counties adapt to
vision loss, maximize remaining vision, achieve their goals, and expand
their independence; and
WHEREAS, Mark J. McCarthy is a longtime friend, volunteer and board
member of the NABA; a graduate of Albany Law School, Mark J. McCarthy is
a highly regarded attorney with the law firm Harris Beach PLLC, and is
listed in NEW YORK SUPER LAWYERS and BEST LAWYERS IN AMERICA; and
WHEREAS, For the past 13 years, Mark J. McCarthy has graciously
devoted his time and energies to helping the NABA fulfill its mission of
providing critically needed support, guidance and assistance to the
blind and visually impaired across the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man also serves as President of the Board of
Directors for the Albany Catholic Charities Caregivers Support Services,
and is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Albany-Schenecta-
dy League of Arts and the Albany City Hostel; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mark J. McCarthy is a member of the Finance
Committee at St. Pius X in Loudonville, New York, and has been active in
numerous youth sports organizations as a coach and league organizer; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Eileen, and his three
wonderful children, Kate, Jack, and Connor, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who give of their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mark J. McCarthy has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mark J. McCarthy upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award by the Northeastern Association
of the Blind at Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mark J. McCarthy.
