LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Mary Elizabeth Orzesek upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they plan in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor and salute
Mary Elizabeth Orzesek as she proudly marks her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Mary Elizabeth Orzesek was born Mary Elizabeth Aherin on July
19, 1914, to Thomas and Elizabeth Aherin, of Camillus, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mary Elizabeth was happily raised in Camillus with her
siblings, Margaret and Thomas Aherin; and
WHEREAS, On June 14, 1947, Mary Elizabeth joyfully married Otto Orze-
sek in the rectory of St. Francis Xavier Church in Marcellus, New York;
the couple was blissfully married for 50 years; and
WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, Mary Elizabeth Orzesek worked as a
secretary in the billing department for St. Joseph's Hospital in Syra-
cuse, where she made many friends and was highly respected for her work;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to her career, Mary Elizabeth Orzesek has dedi-
cated her time to knitting, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables,
being involved with the Marcellus Historical Society, and faithfully
attending church at Holy Family Church in Fairmount, New York; and
WHEREAS, She has received numerous awards for knitting hats, scarves,
and mittens to benefit local individuals in need, as well as merchant
marines; she has also knitted afghans for physically-disabled individ-
uals; and
WHEREAS, Mary Elizabeth Orzesek continues to enjoy luncheons with her
friends, and her family attributes her longevity to a healthy lifestyle
consisting of exercise, honesty, generosity, travel, and a positive
outlook on life; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family, friends and community;
she has experienced the incredible joys and sorrows reserved for those
with the stamina and courage to savor such a full life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mary Elizabeth Orzesek upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Elizabeth Orzesek.
