LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Keely O'Connor upon the occasion of
being named a merit winner of the 2013-14 Lions Club International Peace
Poster Contest
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Keely O'Connor upon the occasion of being named a merit winner of the
2013-14 Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest; and
WHEREAS, Each year for the past 25 years, Lions Clubs around the world
have sponsored a poster contest for local schools and youth groups, to
encourage young people worldwide to express their vision of peace; and
WHEREAS, The theme of the 2013-14 poster contest was "Our World, Our
Future"; and
WHEREAS, Keely O'Connor is an eighth grade student at the Carthage
Central Middle School and entered the contest representing the Carthage
Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Keely O'Connor was one of 23 merit winners from among 400,000
contest entries, along with winners from India, China, Chile, Greece,
Israel, Italy, and other countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, Keely O'Connor plans to use her contest prize money to help
defray her summer camp tuition at the prestigious Interlochen Center for
Arts in Michigan; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when indi-
viduals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized; and
WHEREAS, Keely O'Connor exemplifies the best potential which is inher-
ent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Keely O'Connor upon the occasion of being named a merit winner
of the 2013-14 Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Keely O'Connor.
