LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Leo Kaytes Sr. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Leadership in Community Award by
SUNY Orange Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Leo Kaytes Sr. has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Leo Kaytes
Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Leadership
in Community Award by SUNY Orange Foundation; he will be celebrated at
the foundation's 8th Annual Leadership Awards Ceremony, featuring The
Spirit of Entrepreneurship, on Thursday, April 10, 2014, on the SUNY
Orange Newburgh, New York, campus; and
WHEREAS, Leo Kaytes Sr. founded Leo Kaytes Ford on Route 94 in
Warwick, New York, in 1978; and just as the successful dealership has
been responsive to the automotive needs of the community, its dynamic
creator has responded to the needs of his neighbors, volunteering count-
less hours to help make the community a better place to live, work and
raise a family; and
WHEREAS, Leo Kaytes Sr. has been a generous contributor to and
supporter of many nonprofits, community causes and special events; and
WHEREAS, He is the longtime president of the Winslow Therapeutic
Riding Center, a nonprofit organization that offers programs for chil-
dren and adults with physical, mental or social disabilities, as well as
those who wish to learn about horses and riding in a therapeutic envi-
ronment; in addition, Leo Kaytes Sr. is a member and past president of
the Warwick Rotary Club, a member and past vice president of the St.
Anthony's Hospital Board of Directors, and has also served on the boards
of directors of the St. Anthony Franciscan Tri State Health Care System,
and the Bon Secours Charity Health Care System; and
WHEREAS, Leo Kaytes Sr. has received numerous awards and accolades in
recognition of his many charitable endeavors; he was named 1998 Warwick
Citizen of the Year, received the 2005 Caring for Life Award for his
support of the Bon Secours Warwick Healthcare Campus, and the Lifetime
Achievement Award from St. Anthony's Hospital; in 2009, this distin-
guished man was presented with the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished
Service Award by the Warwick Lions Club, the Lions' top award issued to
non-members; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Leo Kaytes Sr. has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Leo Kaytes Sr. has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Leo Kaytes Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Leadership in Community Award by SUNY Orange Foundation; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Leo Kaytes Sr.
