LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Marlene Taylor upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Ambassador for Christ
International Outreach Ministry and Gateway Christian Center, on Sunday,
May 4, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession or
other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Marlene
Taylor upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the Ambassador for Christ International Outreach Ministry and Gateway
Christian Center at its 4th Annual Pastors and Women of Distinction
Appreciation Awards Gala on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Floral Terrace,
Floral Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Marlene Taylor is being recognized for her exemplary work
and commitment to her community, which serves to empower others; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Marlene Taylor is a physician on staff at Montefiore
Medical Center in Bronx, New York, where she serves in the Infectious
Disease Clinic, and provides primary care to patients living with HIV
and HCV; prior to this appointment in 2011, this compassionate healer
spent more than a decade on the front lines of the HIV and Hepatitis C
epidemic as a member of the staff of the Special Services Clinic at
North General Hospital in Central Harlem, New York, from the late 1990s
until the institution closed in 2010; and
WHEREAS, A mother of two, Dr. Marlene Taylor earned her bachelor's
degree in Biology at Fordham University, and undertook her medical
training in the Harlem Hospital Physician Associate Program in 1981; she
continued her education at Columbia University and New York Medical
College; and
WHEREAS, In addition to managing the complex medical complications
associated with HIV and Hepatitis C, as her patients age, Dr. Marlene
Taylor addresses the treatment of the challenging co-morbid conditions
of hypertension, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke,
substance abuse and STDs; with the knowledge only experience brings,
this dedicated woman is passionate about addressing health disparities,
and, to that end, consults with organizations such as the National Black
Leadership Commission on AIDS and COPE, as well as serving as an issue
expert to news media; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Marlene Taylor upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Ambassador for Christ International Outreach
Ministry and Gateway Christian Center, on Sunday, May 4, 2014, noting
her unremitting and compassionate faith and her exemplary service to
God, humanity, and her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Marlene Taylor.
