LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rena Gorish Marr upon the occasion
of her induction into the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward
Institute
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Rena Gorish Marr upon the occasion of her induction into the 2013
Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute, which was celebrated
at a ceremony held at its Alumni and Veterans Fields during its Homecom-
ing on October 19, 2013, in Florida, New York; and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Institute
Athletics Program, Rena Gorish Marr, Class of 1999, had an outstanding
athletic career with the Lady Seward Spartans; she earned varsity
letters in basketball, softball and soccer for four years; and
WHEREAS, During her illustrious high school basketball career, Rena
Gorish Marr finished with over 1,000 points, and was a three-time All-
State selection; in her senior year, she averaged 23.8 points, 10
rebounds, four assists and four steals per game; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Rena Gorish Marr played four years of varsity
soccer at SS Seward Institute, earning All-State honors as a goal keeper
in her senior year; and
WHEREAS, Rena Gorish Marr continued her basketball career at Wilkes
University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, playing varsity in all four
years; here, she averaged 10 points, five rebounds and three assists per
game, and at one time she held the team record for most 3-pointers; as
team captain in both her junior and senior years, she did a superb job
of guiding and inspiring her team members towards their goals; and
WHEREAS, She graduated from Wilkes University with a bachelor's degree
in psychology, and went on to obtain a master's in community and coun-
seling psychology; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dave, and their
triplets, Hudson, Harper, and Sadie, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Rena Gorish Marr provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Rena Gorish Marr has clearly been an inspiration to the youth
of the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rena Gorish Marr upon the occasion of her induction into
the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rena Gorish Marr.
