LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Tom Fuller, Sr. upon the occasion
of his induction into the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward
Institute
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Tom Fuller, Sr. upon the occasion of his induction into the 2013
Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute, which was celebrated
at a ceremony held at its Alumni and Veterans Fields during its Homecom-
ing on October 19, 2013, in Florida, New York; and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Institute
Athletics Program, Tom Fuller, Sr., Class of 1966, played four years of
varsity soccer, two years of varsity basketball, and four years of
varsity baseball; and
WHEREAS, As a key member of the varsity soccer team, Tom Fuller, Sr.'s
two out of four seasons ended with the Seward Spartans capturing the
Orange County League Championship; in both 1964 and 1965, he was
selected to the OCIAA first-team All-Stars which led to his selection as
SSSI All-Sport Athlete for 1965-1966; and
WHEREAS, One of his most well-known baseball memories was a three-hom-
er game against Goshen High School; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious basketball career, Tom Fuller, Sr.
scored a full-court shot at the buzzer, approximately 55 feet; this
remarkable record will definitely be hard to break at the SS Seward gym;
and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Tom Fuller, Sr. attended OCCC where he
played varsity soccer; he later attended Harriman College; and
WHEREAS, Tom Fuller, Sr.'s exceptional athletic accomplishments
include perfect 300 games in bowling, which led to 13 years of coaching
youth bowling; he also coached modified soccer and baseball for two
years at SS Seward; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Tom Fuller, Sr. served his country for three
years as a member of the United States Army which included three tours
of duty in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Tom Fuller, Sr. is a member of the
American Legion Post 1250, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; he is a
long-time member of the Florida Fire Department, and currently serves on
the village board, elected in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Tom Fuller, Sr. provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Tom Fuller, Sr. has clearly been an inspiration to the youth
of the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Tom Fuller, Sr. upon the occasion of his induction into the
2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Fuller, Sr.
