LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring W. Brian Barr upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in
Health and Human Services by Senior Services of Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, W. Brian Barr has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor W. Brian Barr
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Third Age
Achievement Award in Health and Human Services by Senior Services of
Albany, to be celebrated at its 18th Annual Third Age Achievement Awards
luncheon on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Alba-
ny, New York; and
WHEREAS, Retired social worker and substance abuse counselor W. Brian
Barr's passion for helping others has been greatly felt in the diverse
communities he has served; and
WHEREAS, W. Brian Barr served as the Clinical and Community Director
for the LaSalle School in Albany, and as Associate Commissioner for the
New York State Office of Children and Family Services; throughout much
of his career he worked and volunteered countless nights and weekends to
meet with grieving families, and to educate others on the subject of
suicide awareness; and
WHEREAS, W. Brian Barr has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, W. Brian Barr has been giving pres-
entations at schools, churches and neighborhoods about the importance of
suicide prevention; and
WHEREAS, This compassionate man currently serves as President of the
Board for Senior Hope Counseling, a New York State outpatient clinic
serving individuals 50 years of age and older who suffer from alcohol
and/or drug addiction; he also continues his invaluable efforts in
suicide prevention and awareness, emphasizing the increased risk of
suicide that accompanies aging; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, W. Brian Barr has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which W. Brian Barr has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor W. Brian Barr upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in Health and Human Services by
Senior Services of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to W. Brian Barr.
