LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating shot put champion and All-American
Tara Belinsky for her outstanding athletic achievements in track and
field
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late shot put champion and All-American Tara Belinsky for her outstand-
ing athletic achievements in track and field; and
WHEREAS, Manhasset High School senior and current State outdoor shot
put champion and All-American Tara Belinsky has been a dominant force in
New York; and
WHEREAS, Tara Belinsky recently competed in the 2014 Indoor New York
State Track and Field Championship where she placed, bringing her career
total to four State medals, and earned All-State honors for the fourth
time; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious high school track and field
career, Tara Belinsky has earned New Balance All-American honors, was
named All Long Island for Indoor Track and Field by NEWSDAY, is a two-
time Long Island Champion, and a six-time All-County Award winner; and
WHEREAS, During her last two indoor and outdoor track and field
seasons, Tara Belinsky won every conference and county meet, medaled at
the PENN Relays, and won the Hispanic Games, Eastern States, and the
Yale Invitational meets; and
WHEREAS, One of Manhasset High School's most decorated track and field
athletes, Tara Belinsky currently holds the school record for shot put
and discus; as captain, she has led by example and has been a mentor to
younger members of her team, and her achievements remain to inspire
others; in addition, this star athlete was a member of the varsity
volleyball team; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Tara Belinsky is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Steve Sproul, and field events Coach
Russ Anbinder, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their
ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, In addition to athletics, Tara Belinsky is co-president of
the Rachel's Challenge Club, a member of the Italian Honor Society, a
high Honor Roll student and a Manhasset Scholar Athlete; she is also
active in Key Club, and during 2013, she completed more than 150 hours
of community service; and
WHEREAS, Tara Belinsky's overall record is outstanding; in all her
endeavors, she was loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the Manhasset community at large; and
WHEREAS, Coaches Steve Sproul and Russ Anbinder have done a superb job
in guiding, molding and inspiring Tara Belinsky toward her goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Tara Belinsky has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate shot put champion and All-American Tara Belinsky for her
outstanding athletic achievements in track and field; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tara Belinsky, and Coaches Steve Sproul and Russ Anbinder.
