LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Girl Scout Cadette Najah Lorde upon
the occasion of being the 2014 top seller of Girl Scout cookies in New
York City

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Girl Scout Cadette Najah Lorde upon the occasion of being the 2014 top
seller of Girl Scout cookies in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Najah Lorde, of Springfield Gardens in Queens, New York, is
the daughter of Deanne and Donovan Lorde, and a member of Troop 4287;
and
WHEREAS, This enterprising 12-year-old Scout sold an incredible 2,833
boxes of Girl Scout cookies in 2014, 1,722 more boxes than she sold last
year; she accomplished this feat by selling the tasty treats to school-
mates, family members, members of her church, as well as accompanying
her parents to their places of employment and appealing to their
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Najah Lorde is an outstanding student in the seventh-grade at
Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy in Douglaston, New York; she was recently
selected to be in the prestigious Aquinas program for academically
talented students, and is a candidate to become an Oliver Scholar, a
program that engages extraordinary New York City students of African and
Latino descent to prepare them for success at leading high schools and
prestigious colleges; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people the
solid values of sisterhood, community service, and working with others,
as well as the importance of stimulating the mind, and strengthening the
body, instilling a sense of pride and encouraging success; and
WHEREAS, Selling cookies does more than allow Girl Scouts to raise
funds to support local Girl Scout councils and programs, it also helps
them learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people
skills, and business ethics, attributes essential to leadership,
success, and life; and
WHEREAS, Najah Lorde's achievement clearly demonstrates that this
exemplary young woman possesses the skills and determination to overcome
any challenge in the pursuit of her goals and dreams; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
Scout now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her leaders, and parents;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Girl Scout Cadette Najah Lorde, recognizing her achievement in
being the 2014 top seller of Girl Scout cookies in New York City, and
wishing her success, health and happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Najah Lorde.
