LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Great Neck South High School
Science Olympiad Team A upon the occasion of capturing First Place at
the 2014 New York State Science Olympiad Nassau West Regional Competi-
tion

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow who, by achieving
outstanding success in educational competition, inspire and bring pride
to themselves and to their school, their community, and the great State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Great
Neck South High School Science Olympiad Team A upon the occasion of
capturing First Place at the 2014 New York State Science Olympiad Nassau
West Regional Competition held on Saturday, February 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization
dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, while also
increasing male, female and minority interest in science; its competi-
tions recognize outstanding student achievement in science; and
WHEREAS, Using teamwork, discipline, and commitment, students compete
in rigorous individual and team events in such fields as biology, chem-
istry, earth science, genetics, physics, geology, computer science,
engineering and technology; and
WHEREAS, Great Neck South High School Science Olympiad Team A competed
against 32 other teams to capture First Place at the 2014 New York State
Science Olympiad Nassau West Regional; and
WHEREAS, Winning medals in 19 of 22 events, the members of this
remarkable team have proven themselves to be an unbeatable combination
of talents, reflecting favorably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Instrumental in the success and outstanding achievement of
the 2014 Great Neck South High School Science Olympiad Team A were
faculty coaches/advisors Abby-Jo Brighton and Dr. James Truglio; and
WHEREAS, The members of the 2014 Great Neck High School Science Olym-
piad Team A include: Lora Pavlovich, Evangeline Giannopoulos, Robbin
Jang, Lelina Chang, Cristina Lai, Jay Zussman, Joseph Kim, Cassie Wang,
Robin Shum, Su Yeon (Rachel) An, Sherry Yang, Elliot Horowitz, Jarett
Gross, Jacob Mathai, and Jaysen Zhang; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to celebrate the educational and scientific
accomplishments of remarkable schools, students, advisors, coaches and
teachers in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their achievement and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers, coaches
and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Great Neck South High School Science Olympiad Team A upon
the occasion of capturing First Place at the 2014 New York State Science
Olympiad Nassau West Regional Competition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of Great Neck South High School Science Olympiad
Team A and the aforementioned faculty coaches/advisors.
