LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Westbury High School Junior Raeco
Jackson upon the occasion of being named an All-County Wrestler

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Westbury High School Junior Raeco Jackson upon the occasion of
being named an All-County Wrestler at a tournament held February 16,
2014; he captured four wins before becoming the champ with his fifth
victory beating Syosset's opponent 7-4; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being named All-County, Raeco Jackson is an
All-County pole vaulter, and the starting quarterback on the Westbury
Football Team; and
WHEREAS, A winning confidence coupled with a great attitude has
allowed Raeco Jackson to not only become Westbury's first wrestler to
finish first in the county in the last 38 years, but also helped him
compile the most wins (96) in program history; and
WHEREAS, This standout athlete is now a two-time All-County wrestler,
and also finished sixth in the tournament as a ninth grader; to qualify
as All-County, a wrestler must finish in the top six of his weight class
which includes 26 wrestlers; Raeco Jackson is one such wrestler; and
WHEREAS, Raeco Jackson was able to finish with an astounding 36-5
record this season; he was loyally and enthusiastically supported by
family, fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Raeco Jackson is due in
great part to the efforts of Head Coach Patrick McGovern, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into
excellence; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Raeco Jackson was voted by his peers as the
Champion of Champions, a prestigious award which proves how dominant his
season was and how well he is respected by fellow champions; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Raeco Jackson has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Westbury High School Junior Raeco Jackson upon the occasion
of being named an All-County Wrestler; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Raeco Jackson.
