LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Karl Grossman upon the occasion of his
selection into the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Karl
Grossman upon the occasion of his selection into the Long Island Jour-
nalism Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Karl Grossman, a professor of journalism in the Media and
Communications program at SUNY College at Old Westbury, has been named a
member of the inaugural class of inductees to the new Long Island Jour-
nalism Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame was founded to recog-
nize trailblazing journalists of the past and present; the criteria for
those being inducted requires members be someone who has made a signif-
icant contribution to Long Island journalism, or be a Long Islander who
has made a contribution to journalism beyond Long Island; Karl Grossman
is such a member; and
WHEREAS, For more than four decades of investigative work, Karl Gross-
man has been delving into the nooks and crannies of American life, poli-
tics, and relationships, and calling for accountability at every level
of society; and
WHEREAS, Having taught investigative reporting at Old Westbury for
nearly 35 years, Karl Grossman has paired his passionate pursuit with a
level of excellence in the classroom that prepares young journalists not
only to report on the news of today, but to seek the impacts such news
will have on our tomorrows; and
WHEREAS, Karl Grossman has long specialized in reporting on issues
related to the environment and nuclear technology; and
WHEREAS, Along with hundreds of articles and commentaries, Karl Gross-
man has been featured for sites such as HUFFINGTON POST; he has also
authored numerous books, including COVER UP: WHAT YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED
TO KNOW ABOUT NUCLEAR POWER, POWER CRAZY, and THE WRONG STUFF: THE SPACE
PROGRAM'S NUCLEAR THREAT TO OUR PLANET; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Karl Grossman has written and narrated tele-
vision documentaries which include the award-winning THREE MILE ISLAND
REVISITED, THE PUSH TO REVIVE NUCLEAR POWER, and NUKES IN SPACE;
furthermore, he hosts the nationally broadcast television program "Envi-
ro Close-Up"; and
WHEREAS, Our journalists provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As Karl Grossman moves into the future, he carries with him
the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and an outstanding
record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karl Grossman upon the occasion of his selection into the Long
Island Journalism Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Karl Grossman.
