LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sonia Pressman Fuentes upon the occasion
of her induction into the Monticello Central School District's inaugural
Hall of Distinction on November 3, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sonia Pressman Fuentes upon the occasion of her induction into the
Monticello Central School District's inaugural Hall of Distinction cele-
brated at a ceremony held in the school's Arnold Packer Hughes Auditori-
um on Sunday, November 3, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor graduates or attendees, or former teachers or
staff members who have made a lasting and outstanding contribution to
society upon graduating or leaving the Monticello Central School
District; and
WHEREAS, Sonia Pressman Fuentes is a graduate of Monticello Central
School, Class of 1946; and
WHEREAS, She is was one of 49 founders of the National Organization
for Women (NOW) and is one of nine surviving founders; in addition, she
was a founder of Federally Employed Women (FEW) and a charter member of
the Veteran Feminists of America; and
WHEREAS, One of the longest-serving members of the board of trustees
of the National Woman's Party (NWP), Sonia Pressman Fuentes was the
first woman attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC); and
WHEREAS, Currently residing in Sarasota, Florida, Sonia Pressman
Fuentes is a published author and public speaker; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sonia Pressman Fuentes has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sonia Pressman Fuentes upon the occasion of her induction into the
Monticello Central School District's inaugural Hall of Distinction; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sonia Pressman Fuentes.
