LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Edward Brown upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Jefferson
County Probation Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Edward Brown upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the Jefferson County Probation Department; and
WHEREAS, A 1973 graduate of Indian River Central Schools, and a 1977
criminal justice graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology,
Edward Brown joined the Jefferson County Probation Department in 1977;
and
WHEREAS, Under his exemplary leadership, a number of positive advance-
ments were made within the department including the development of the
Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program, establishing the drug testing
program for the department, developing the Electronic Home Detention
Program, establishing the Family Court Unit, and formulating DNA
collection procedures; and
WHEREAS, Edward Brown is also credited with helping the Jefferson
County Probation Department move forward with new technology and equip-
ment; in addition, many of his initiatives have focused on officer safe-
ty, such as providing officers with the ability to carry firearms for
protection while on duty; and
WHEREAS, With a passion and enthusiasm for his job, Edward Brown
served the Jefferson County Probation Department for 37 years, making a
difference not only in the department but also in the North Country
community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Edward Brown served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and
was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Jefferson County Probation Depart-
ment, Edward Brown earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edward Brown upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Jefferson County Probation Depart-
ment; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edward Brown.
