LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trooper Nichole K. Turck and Trooper
Scott D. Whitmore upon the occasion of receiving the New York State
Police Brummer Award
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Trooper
Nichole K. Turck and Trooper Scott D. Whitmore upon the occasion of
receiving the New York State Police Brummer Award, New York State
Police's highest award for bravery; and
WHEREAS, On April 2, 2013, Trooper Turck and Trooper Whitmore were
working in the vicinity of County Route 2 in the Town of Orleans when
they observed a fire and smoke in the distance; and
WHEREAS, Upon noticing the fire and smoke, Trooper Turck and Trooper
Whitmore patrolled to that location and found a fully engulfed barn fire
on County Route 13 that had spread to the house on the property, owned
by an elderly couple; and
WHEREAS, Putting the safety of the elderly people above their own,
Trooper Turck and Trooper Whitmore entered the residence, battling the
smoke and flames to bring them, who then were 85 years-old and sleeping
at the time of the fire, to safety; and
WHEREAS, The blaze, which took 16 departments and nearly three hours
to combat, destroyed the couple's 133 year-old farmhouse, a large barn
and two other structures; and
WHEREAS, Due to the quick thinking and bravery of Trooper Turck and
Trooper Whitmore, the couple was saved; and treated at River Hospital in
Alexandria Bay, and then discharged; and
WHEREAS, Not only during this incident, but throughout their careers,
Trooper Turck and Trooper Whitmore have exhibited dedication, selfless-
ness and a passion for putting the safety and well-being of others above
their own, making them both truly deserving of the New York State Police
Brummer Award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Nichole K. Turck and Trooper Scott D. Whitmore upon the
occasion of receiving the New York State Police Brummer Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Nichole K. Turck and Trooper Scott D. Whitmore.
