LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathy Walker upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award by The Food
Pantries for the Capital District
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathy Walker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Volunteer of the Year Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital
District, to be celebrated at its 20th Annual Community Auction on
Saturday, May 3, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Working together to feed the hungry since 1979, The Food
Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition of 53 food pantries
located in Albany, Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties; annually, The Food
Pantries helps fund, collect and deliver nearly 2 million pounds of food
for its member pantries, which provides approximately 2.5 million meals;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, The Food Pantries for the Capital District
supports its member pantries by providing service coordination, educa-
tion, training, opportunities for networking, infant needs and holiday
meal programs; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast volunteer with The Food Pantries for the Capital
District for 15 years, Kathy Walker is currently The Help Center
pantry's longest tenured volunteer; she is at the pantry each week,
working tirelessly and enthusiastically to register clients, greet
guests, or pull groceries, and is in attendance for each and every
special event; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Walker faithfully and graciously serves those within
her community and truly goes above and beyond to ensure she reaches all
of those in need; she is the manager of the clothing operation and
delivers food to those unable to get to the pantry on their own; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she provides small toys and books for the chil-
dren and truly takes the time to build lasting relationships with the
food pantry clients, allowing them to feel supported and cared for; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kathy Walker has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Kathy Walker has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathy Walker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Volunteer of the Year Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital
District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathy Walker.
