LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the
Randolph School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exem-
plary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate the pursuit of
excellence in education and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of The Randolph School to be celebrated on
Saturday, May 3, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Originally located in Poughkeepsie, New York, the Randolph
School was founded in 1963 to serve children from pre-k to 6th grade by
a group of teachers and parents who shared a belief in children's innate
desire and ability to learn and wanted to create a school where children
would be respected, trusted, encouraged and supported to develop their
full potential in all areas of their lives; and
WHEREAS, The Randolph School relocated from Poughkeepsie to Wappingers
Falls, New York, where it remains today, and expanded its educational
opportunities for students through high school until 2011 when it became
a pre-k through 5th grade school once again; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Randolph School is to awaken students'
love of learning that will last a lifetime, support each child's capaci-
ty for a creative, meaningful, intellectual, social, emotional, artistic
and physical life, and to foster the development of the school community
and its connection to the wider world; and
WHEREAS, The Randolph School curriculum is based on integrating areas
of study in which information and materials are presented in a challeng-
ing, relevant, and open-ended way in an effort to stimulate curiosity,
creativity, innovative thinking, and a life-long love of learning; and
WHEREAS, The Randolph School is a progressive school which offers a
child-centered, holistic method of education focused on educating the
whole child and is committed to serving a diverse population of students
from Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, and Orange counties, aiming to represent
the general population's range of economic status, ethnicities, abili-
ties, and languages; and
WHEREAS, Through hands-on, collaborative, and interdisciplinary explo-
rations and studies, the Randolph School fosters connections between
children and the world around them, with each child nurtured as a capa-
ble and unique individual; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when an educa-
tional institution of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to
our attention, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Randolph School; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Randolph School, Wappingers Falls, New York.
