LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Heidi Nyland upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 New York State High School Assist-
ant Principal of the Year Award by the School Administration Association
of New York State

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge indi-
viduals in the distinguished careers of those outstanding educational
leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and academic excellence in the young people of New
York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Heidi Nyland upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2014 New York State High School Assistant Principal of the Year Award by
the School Administration Association of New York State to be celebrated
on Friday, May 9, 2014, at an awards ceremony held at The Century House
in Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, Heidi Nyland, Assistant Principal of Port Jervis High School,
will receive this auspicious award for her commitment to her students,
parents, and her community, in which she has shown exceptional contrib-
utions to the educational process; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding leader, since the day she interviewed for
her current position six years ago at Port Jervis High School, has held
a professional demeanor, exceptional knowledge of curriculum, and price-
less experience with testing and discipline; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Heidi Nyland has developed
the ability to reach each and every one of her students, instilling in
them the values of education, pride, and accomplishment, and producing
worthy members of the community; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Heidi Nyland serves as a role model for her
female students, guiding them through their tough teenage years; she
also takes the time to talk and listen to their concerns and getting
through their school years; and
WHEREAS, Heidi Nyland goes above and beyond the typical duties of an
administrator by compassionately connecting with her students; she also
has organized Thanksgiving dinners for families in need, and loaned her
sneakers to a student in need; and
WHEREAS, Today, Heidi Nyland continues to impress with her skills in
handling a myriad of responsibilities, which include chairing the 504
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Heidi Nyland provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Heidi Nyland has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of Port Jervis High School, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Heidi Nyland upon the occasion of her designation as recipient

of the 2014 New York State High School Assistant Principal of the Year
Award by the School Administration Association of New York State; and to
wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Heidi Nyland.
