LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ariel Settenbrino upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2014 Young Leadership Award by the
Aleh Foundation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ariel Settenbrino upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2014 Young Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated at the Foundation's 30th Annual Awards
Dinner, to be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Museum of Jewish
Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, The Aleh Foundation was established in 1984, by a group of
women wanting to assist with the staggering needs of disabled children
in Israel; it has grown from a small hospice program for children, to
become Israel's largest provider of educational rehabilitative services
to severely disabled children, with a network of more than 30,000
friends throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A young man with a strong work ethic, and deep compassion for
others, Ariel Settenbrino is truly deserving of the Aleh Foundation's
2014 Young Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Four years ago, Ariel Settenbrino made the decision to twin
his Bar Mitzvah with that of a severely disabled child residing at an
Aleh center in Jerusalem, foregoing a large celebration with friends;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young man has also devoted much of his time to
working with veterans, volunteering once a week at the Bronx Veterans
Administration Hospital; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated student and musician, Ariel Settenbrino is able
to find time in his busy schedule to participate in socially conscious
endeavors; he participated in the 5k Run/Walk to benefit children with
developmental disorders in Israel; in addition, he is a devoted grandson
to his disabled grandmother; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Ariel Settenbrino has displayed
throughout his young life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commitment
toward improving community life, acting as models of leadership to be
emulated by others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ariel Settenbrino upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2014 Young Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ariel Settenbrino.
