LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mike Cioffi, owner of the Phoenicia
Diner, upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Entre-
preneur of the Year Award by the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce
on May 21, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and whose purposeful endeavors, as involved
members of the community, enhance the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mike
Cioffi, owner of the Phoenicia Diner, upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Central
Catskills Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his exceptional leader-
ship and commitment to the community he serves; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cioffi will be honored by the Central Catskills Chamber
of Commerce at its annual awards dinner, to be held at the Hanah Country
Resort and Spa in Margaretville, New York, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Built in 1962 and moved to the Catskills in the early 1980s,
the Phoenicia Diner has a long history of serving customers who are
drawn to the Catskill's natural beauty; located along Route 28 just past
the hamlet of Phoenicia, the restaurant has nurtured its customers for
nearly three decades; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cioffi, a weekender in Margaretville for more than 20
years, had always admired the Phoenicia Diner's look and unique
location; upon the sale of his New York City based company, he was look-
ing for a new adventure and purchased the diner from its previous owner;
and
WHEREAS, With a kitchen upgrade, a dining room refresh and a menu
update, Mike Cioffi gave the Phoenicia Diner a fresh new look while
keeping the old charm of bygone days when a diner meant a welcome envi-
ronment, great food and a respite from travel; and
WHEREAS, By offering residents, weekenders and visitors fresh food
sourced from the Catskills and Hudson Valley farms, a menu crafted by
his chef Mel Rosas, offering traditional diner favorites, some with a
modern twist, the Phoenicia Diner has become the hottest spot to eat
along the Route 28 roadway; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize Mike Cioffi,
owner of the Phoenicia Diner, for his commitment and contributions to
the central Catskills area and to its quality of life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and businesses of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mike Cioffi upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Central Catskills Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mike Cioffi.
