LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Guthrie Diamond upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Student Award by the Capital District
YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Guthrie
Diamond upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Student
Award by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches to
be celebrated at its 17th Annual Outstanding Student and Educator cere-
mony on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Appel Inn in Altamont, New York;
and
WHEREAS, A junior at Bethlehem Central High School, Guthrie Diamond is
highly involved inside and outside of her school; and
WHEREAS, Guthrie Diamond's passion for the environment has brought her
to a new level of volunteering; over the summer months, she was actively
involved in the 4H Earth Club which met once a week to discuss environ-
mental issues that are affecting the watershed in the Capital District;
she also conducted experiments such as testing the pH levels in streams
and measuring the effects water pollution has on the wildlife; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the 4H Earth Club, Guthrie Diamond is active
within Bethlehem High School as a member of the Environmental Club, and
tutors students in French; she also is a member of the Peer Helper group
which is selected by other students in the same grade, they meet once a
week to discuss social issues and how to make the high school a more
welcoming place; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Guthrie Diamond represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Guthrie Diamond continued success throughout her school
years and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Guthrie Diamond upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Student Award by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Beth-
lehem branches; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Guthrie Diamond.
