LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Annie Burdick upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Student Award by the Capital District
YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Annie Burdick
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Student Award
by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches to be
celebrated at its 17th Annual Outstanding Student and Educator ceremony
on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Appel Inn in Altamont, New York; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Bethlehem Central High School, Annie Burdick is
highly involved with the Girl Scouts of America, and was recently a
recipient of the Silver Award for her work on the Birthday Blessings
project; and
WHEREAS, For her project, Annie Burdick created a program to provide
"birthday in a box" for children of St. John/St. Ann's Outreach Center;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to her enthused and determined work within the
Girl Scouts of America, Annie Burdick is heavily active in other organ-
izations in her community; notably, she is part of the JumpStart reading
program which provides weekly assistance to elementary school children
who struggle with reading; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Annie Burdick represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Annie Burdick continued success throughout her school years
and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Annie Burdick upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Student Award by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem
branches; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Annie Burdick.
