LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Emily Stento upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Student Award by the Capital District
YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Emily Stento
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Student Award
by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem branches to be
celebrated at its 17th Annual Outstanding Student and Educator ceremony
on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Appel Inn in Altamont, New York; and
WHEREAS, A junior at Bethlehem Central High School, Emily Stento,
during the summer months, is a junior counselor at the YMCA's Camp Chin-
gachgok on Lake George, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work within the Capital District YMCA,
Emily Stento is heavily involved in her community through her Girl
Scouts of America Troop, and the St. Thomas Parish; and
WHEREAS, Through these organizations, Emily Stento has volunteered for
numerous organizations including: FARE Allergy Awareness Organization,
The Ronald McDonald House, Uncle Shaw's Hugs, Susan G. Komen Race for
the Cure, Hudson Mohawk Humane Society, St. John's/St. Anne's Outreach
Center, and the Northeastern Regional Food Bank; and
WHEREAS, Along with her many volunteer efforts, Emily Stento is active
with the Bethlehem Youth Court as a juror for young adults who have been
accused of committing crimes in the Town of Bethlehem; she is also a
tutor/mentor at Eagle Elementary School through the Jump Start reading
Program; and
WHEREAS, Emily Stento was named captain of her Junior Varsity field
hockey team, and is a member of the Bethlehem High School Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Emily Stento represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Emily Stento continued success throughout her school years
and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Emily Stento upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Student Award by the Capital District YMCA Guilderland and Bethlehem
branches; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emily Stento.
