LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Robert J. Paeglow upon the occasion
of his induction into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a
Distinguished Alumnus on May 2, 2014
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through partic-
ipation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in
their profession or other endeavors, or through a lifetime of good citi-
zenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Robert J.
Paeglow upon the occasion of his induction into the Bishop Maginn High
School Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Alumnus, to be celebrated at its
Induction Dinner on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Shaker Ridge Country Club,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 1972 graduate of Cardinal McCloskey Memorial High School,
Dr. Robert J. Paeglow received a Regents Scholarship which enabled him
to live at home and attend a local university free of charge; he gradu-
ated from The University at Albany and began a job with the Albany Coun-
ty Health Department; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Dr. Robert J. Paeglow began work in the Radiation
Safety Office at Albany Medical Center; he taught himself Radiation
Physics and gradually improved his position to a level of teaching Radi-
ation Physics in the Board Preparation Course for Radiology Residents;
and
WHEREAS, Accepted into the Albany Medical College program in 1990, Dr.
Robert J. Paeglow was a member of the Medical College Honor Society,
Alpha Omega Alpha, and was president of his class for three years; he
graduated Cum Laude with numerous awards and accolades; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, as a fourth year student at Albany Medical College,
Dr. Robert J. Paeglow led a small team into post-war Mozambique, Africa
to provide basic medical care to refugees of the war; since this first
medical mission, and now as a Board Certified Family Physician, he has
led 28 medical missions involving dozens of medical students, while
caring for more than 100,000 patients in the mission field; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to give back to his childhood neighborhood, Dr.
Robert J. Paeglow co-founded the Koinonia Primary Care/Mental Health
Practices in 2000; located at the Capital Region Prayer and Healing
Center, Koinonia opened in February of 2002 and provides primary and
mental health care to the poor in the West Hill community and beyond;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Robert J. Paeglow serves as an Associate
Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Albany Medical College,
and is an Associate Pre-Doctoral Director of the Albany Medical College
Department of Family and Community Medicine; he has been the Keynote
Speaker for the Siena College/Albany Medical College Program Senior
Seminar for the past five years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert J. Paeglow has received both local and national
recognition for his work with the underserved, including his receiving
The Association of American Medical Colleges' Humanism in Medicine Award
in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, on April 1, 2009, Dr. Robert J. Paeglow was
honored as the recipient of The 2009 Jefferson Award for Public Service
in the Capital District of New York State, which annually recognizes an
individual providing exemplary contributions to community and public
service; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Robert J. Paeglow upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Bishop Maginn High
School Alumni Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Robert J. Paeglow.
