LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John Grant upon the occasion of his
induction into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a Student-
Athlete on May 2, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Grant upon the occasion of his induction into the Bishop Maginn High
School Hall of Fame as a Student-Athlete, to be celebrated at its
Induction Dinner on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Shaker Ridge Country Club,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 1968 graduate of Vincentian Institute, John Grant was a
member of the World Affairs Council and National Honor Society, as well
as the recipient of a Regents Scholarship; he lettered in football,
basketball and baseball; and
WHEREAS, In football, John Grant was a two year starter at defensive
end, middle linebacker, offensive guard, and was a placekicker; he was
named to the TIME UNION and KNICKERBOCKER NEWS All-Albany teams; and
WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from high school, John Grant went on to
honorably serve in the United States Air Force as a Meteorologist with
service in Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa; he
conducted weather modification research, worked "tornado alley" and flew
hurricane hunting missions; and
WHEREAS, John Grant earned a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics
from the University of Washington, and a Master's degree in Management
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Manage-
ment; and
WHEREAS, A Global Strategy Consultant, John Grant began his illustri-
ous career working with multinational enterprises; he was managing part-
ner of consulting operations in Europe, Asia and the United States; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was a member of entrepreneurial startups in
energy services, health care, biotechnology and medical devices, includ-
ing roles of Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer; and
WHEREAS, Today, John Grant serves in the esteemed position as Senior
Lecturer in Global Economics and Management at MIT Sloan School of
Management, where he is responsible for MIT Sloan's programs in China
and India; he directed a project affiliated with a renowned Nobel Peace
Prize winner to establish Grameen China Bank to bring finance to China's
rural poor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife of 30 years,
Barbara, and their three beautiful children, Rebecca, Meghan and Spenc-
er, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in
his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Grant upon the occasion of his induction into the Bishop
Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a Student-Athlete; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Grant.
