LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Francis William Sullivan,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Francis William Sullivan of Buffalo, New York died on Tues-
day, December 3, 2013, at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 31, 1923 to William and Mary (Lillis) Sullivan,
Francis William Sullivan was one of nine children; he was educated by
the Sisters of St. Francis at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, and
attended Our Lady of Victory High School and St. Mary's Business School
in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1942, Francis William Sullivan joined the United States
Navy, where he served for four years on an ammunition ship and an
aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during the second World War; and
WHEREAS, Francis William Sullivan married his loving wife, Doris
Murphy, in 1947, and together they raised seven children in South
Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Known for his hard work, great humor and generosity, Francis
William Sullivan was a true family man whose commitment to excellence,
and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Francis William Sullivan worked at Allied Chemical for 30
years, as well as Buffalo Raceway and Memorial Auditorium with four of
his brothers for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, This exemplary man distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his sister, Catherine; and brother-in-law,
Robert, Francis William Sullivan is survived by his wife of 66 years,
Doris; children, Anne Marie (Joseph), Madonna (Daniel), Kathleen
(Charles), Mary (Patrick), Jeanne (Michael), Michael (Barbara), and
Francis Jr. (Tami); 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren;
sister, Margaret; and brothers, James, William, John, Joseph, Donald and
Edward; as well as many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Francis William Sullivan
leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and
will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Francis William Sullivan, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Francis William Sullivan.
