LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Catta-
raugus County Museum
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acknowledge certain institutions which improve the quality of life for
individuals and communities within this great Empire State through
historical and educational resources; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with this long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Cattaraugus County Museum on the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anni-
versary; and
WHEREAS, It is important local communities protect and preserve their
history to share with current and future generations; the Cattaraugus
County Museum was dedicated in September of 1914, as a commemoration to
the life and times of Civil War veterans; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the last century, the museum has developed into a
facility which perpetuates the memory of the men and women who
originally settled in the county and contributed to its spiritual,
cultural, agricultural, and industrial development; and
WHEREAS, The museum collects, preserves, maintains, and displays the
many antiques, artifacts, and historic documents which have had a direct
impact on the heritage of Cattaraugus County; the museum's staff and
volunteers take pride in knowing all museum resources are used for
recreational and educational purposes which are made readily available
for the public; and
WHEREAS, The museum was originally erected in Little Valley, New York,
but is now housed in the Cattaraugus County Home, Farm, and Infirmary
which was formerly known as the Alms House and Insane Asylum; this is
the sole remaining building of the Nineteenth Century in the county; and
WHEREAS, The Alms House was built in 1868 to house those with develop-
mental disabilities, and abandoned men, women, and children of Cattarau-
gus County; the museum was officially moved into this building in
September of 2004; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
milestones in the histories of certain exceptional institutions in this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Cattaraugus County Museum; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Cattaraugus County Museum.
