LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Pat Sexton upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Service Above Self Award by the Rotary
Club of Rhinebeck on Monday, May 12, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those who distin-
guish themselves in their profession and in service to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Pat
Sexton upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Service
Above Self Award by the Rotary Club of Rhinebeck, to be celebrated on
Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Rhinecliff Hotel in Rhinecliff, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is dedicated to the development of
fellowship and understanding among business and professional leaders,
the promotion of community-betterment endeavors and of high standards in
business and professional practices, and the advancement of interna-
tional understanding, goodwill and peace; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Rotary Club of Rhinebeck proudly honors indi-
viduals who exemplify those principles with the Service Above Self
Award; and
WHEREAS, Arts organizer and producer Pat Sexton and her husband, Peter
Muste, moved to Rhinebeck in 1992, to raise a family and develop their
company, GREEN HILL PRODUCTIONS after she had worked in New York City
for 13 years as a writer, actor, and Fortune 500 corporate event produc-
er; and
WHEREAS, Pat Sexton was born and raised in New Jersey, and has a Bach-
elor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from Stockton State College; and
WHEREAS, Soon after arriving in Rhinebeck, she met Andy Weintraub, who
dreamed of building a community theater, an idea Pat Sexton loved, and
started helping Andy and his team of volunteers opening THE CENTER FOR
PERFORMING ARTS AT RHINEBECK, then a tent theater, in 1994; and
WHEREAS, They spent the following four years, along with Sally Mazza-
rella, leading the fundraising effort to build today's barn theater,
which opened in 1998, with both of Pat's children born around these
events, her son, John, in 1994, and her daughter, Kate, in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Pat Sexton's work with the Rhinebeck schools grew naturally
from raising young children and her interest in the arts; she and her
husband have produced arts-in-education programming in the Rhinebeck
schools for over 10 years, forming an organization called ENTA - EDUCA-
TION NETWORK FOR TEACHERS AND ARTISTS, and, along with many local
artists working in cooperation, they developed several on-going programs
for the Rhinebeck schools; and
WHEREAS, Pat Sexton has been a parent representative on Rhinebeck's
COMPREHENSIVE DISTRICT EDUCATION PLAN committee for the past 10 years;
and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Pat Sexton met Jeanne Fleming, helping to produce
SINTERKLAAS in Rhinebeck and Kingston with Lila Pague and Elena Erber
since 2008, and acting as production manager on the October 2009 Opening
of the Walkway Over the Hudson, WALKING ON AIR through which she and her
company were involved in the execution of this massive project uniting
52 towns in Dutchess and Ulster Counties to create art for the huge
parade that welcomed the first visitors to the Walkway; and
WHEREAS, Pat Sexton participated in the RHINEBECK-RHEINBACH MUSICAL
EXCHANGE PROGRAM for the past eight years, including grant writing,

heading to Germany in 2012, with her husband and children on the
exchange, and hosted two girls in 2013, calling the experience a thrill-
ing adventure for our entire family; and
WHEREAS, In January 2014, Pat Sexton became Program Director with MILL
STREET LOFT, an arts organization based in Poughkeepsie, work she
describes as "deep and meaningful for so many sectors of the community -
the poor, youth, senior citizens, hospitalized children...an amazing
step in my career"; and
WHEREAS, Pat Sexton loves collaborating with artists and local organ-
izations of all kinds stating, "I have met so many people I would never
have met had I not been involved in these amazing arts programs. I have
been enriched beyond measure and can't imagine living in a nicer place
or having a more wonderful life than the one we enjoy here in Rhine-
beck"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Pat Sexton upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Service Above Self Award by the Rotary Club of Rhinebeck on Monday,
May 12, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pat Sexton.
