LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trooper Christopher V. Williams upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Superintendent's Commenda-
tion Award at the 38th Annual New York State Police Awards Day Ceremony
on May 7, 2014

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those who preserve and protect such values, lauding particularly their
unwavering courage and dedication in the daily performance of their
duties; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Trooper Christopher V. Williams, of State Police Troop F in Middletown,
New York, upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of a
Superintendent's Commendation Award; and
WHEREAS, A Trooper since August 16, 2007, Trooper Christopher V.
Williams is being recognized for his outstanding police work; he will
receive the award at the 38th Annual New York State Police Superinten-
dent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony, to be held at the New York
State Police Academy in Albany, New York, on Wednesday, May 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, On January 19, 2013, Trooper Williams, his partner, and
volunteer firefighters responded to a 911 call for five children who had
fallen through the ice of a frigid pond in the Town of Wallkill; and
WHEREAS, Upon arriving at the scene, Trooper Williams and the other
emergency responders saw that, although two children had managed to
climb out of the water, three young people remained huddled on the ice
in the middle of the pond; and
WHEREAS, When his partner and a volunteer firefighter were unable to
reach the children after entering the icy water and wading to chest-deep
depths, Trooper Williams quickly grabbed a rope and threw one end to the
children, holding on to the other end himself; and
WHEREAS, The children tied one end of the rope around themselves and
began inching toward the emergency responders in the water, who were
soon able to pick them up and carry them out of the water to safety; and
WHEREAS, Because of the quick actions of Trooper Williams and his
fellow emergency responders, a potential tragedy was averted; and
WHEREAS, In keeping with the finest traditions of the New York State
Police, Trooper Christopher V. Williams has distinguished himself by his
exemplary achievement and outstanding performance on behalf of the
community he so faithfully and courageously serves; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated efforts of public servants, such as Trooper
Christopher V. Williams, who unselfishly devote their lives to the pres-
ervation of order and the protection of others are worthy of the full
praise of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New York;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Christopher V. Williams upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of a Superintendent's Commendation Award at the 38th
Annual New York State Police Superintendent's Commendation and Awards
Day Ceremony on May 7, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Christopher V. Williams.
