LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Shadow-
land Theatre on May 2, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 30th Anniversary of the Shadowland Theatre; the opening of its
30th season and the completion of its "Light the Way" campaign will be
celebrated with a Thank You Reception at the theater on Friday, May 2,
2014, in Ellenville, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Shadowland Theatre is celebrating three decades of
outstanding theatrical works and the completion of its "Light the Way"
campaign, which has raised significant funds to repair and modernize the
interior and stage of its historic building; and
WHEREAS, The Shadowland Theatre is a live-production company and
performing arts center dedicated to showcasing high-quality, profes-
sionally produced plays and musicals in the village of Ellenville, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, the Young Actors Academy at Shadowland Theatre had
16 students, and in the fall of 2013, it had already grown to 65
students and anticipates continued growth upon the opening of its2014
spring session; and
WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, this esteemed theatrical organization
has carried on a tradition of entertaining and enriching the cultural
life of the Ellenville community; and
WHEREAS, Performing in its own facility, which first opened in 1920,
the Shadowland Theatre holds its many performances in a building that
once housed an art-deco movie theater and vaudeville house; the reno-
vations have preserved its unique history and charm; and
WHEREAS, The new theatrical space features modern technology and
excellent acoustics, as well as 186-seat tiered seating surrounding an
intimate stage; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this successful renovation and 30 years of
outstanding performances, the Shadowland Theatre will be holding seven
productions in 2014, with a full six months of programming extending
well past the summer; and
WHEREAS, Thanks to the help of its many supporters, including evening
honoree Robert Osgood, the Shadowland Theatre will endure as a center-
piece of community life in the village of Ellenville for many years to
come; and
WHEREAS, As the Shadowland Theatre looks back with great pride to its
beginnings, viewing, with just satisfaction, its successful evolution,
it renews both its dedication to supporting artistic excellence, and its
commitment to the community it has served since 1984, expressing its
appreciation to all those who have helped to sustain and enhance it over
the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Shadowland Theatre; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Shadowland Theatre.
