LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Robert L.
Weininger Memorial V.F.W. Post No. 8692 on May 4, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Robert L. Weininger Memorial V.F.W. Post No.
8692 at its 44th Annual Loyalty Day Ceremony on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at
the Post Hall, Colonie, New York; and
WHEREAS, As part of the Loyalty Day, "The Celebration of Patriotism,"
event, Jefferson Gardner will be presented the 2014 Scout of the Year
Award; and
WHEREAS, Since the inception of VFW, the Boy Scouts of America has
played a major part in supporting the VFW's efforts; during World Wars I
and II the Boy Scouts helped collect food and other items to support
troops in the war, and, since then, Scouting has continued to be a
supporter of the VFW and Scouts have become members of the VFW; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner, a member of Boy Scouts of Ameri-
ca Troop 77, was chosen by his Troop leaders, and put forward to V.F.W.
Post No. 8692 as a candidate for the Scout of the Year Award based on
his outstanding citizenship in his school, in Scouting, and in his
community; and
WHEREAS, Loyalty Day is a commemorative holiday, during the observance
of which Americans pause to celebrate our freedom and to reaffirm our
allegiance to the United States, while also remembering our responsibil-
ities to continue the legacy of liberty; and
WHEREAS, In living up to the values of duty, service, and patriotism,
as evidenced by his selection for the esteemed honor of Scout of the
Year, Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner exemplifies the ideals of Loyalty Day,
and embodies the spirit of the principles upon which this Nation was
founded; and
WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Jefferson Gardner represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by the Robert L. Weininger Memorial V.F.W. Post
No. 8692 at its 44th Annual Loyalty Day Ceremony; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Boy Scout Jefferson Gardner.
