LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lisa Smith upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Business Person of the Year Award
by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce on May 9, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Smith has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lisa Smith
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Business
Person of the Year Award by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, to be
celebrated at its 12th Annual Pineapple Ball on Friday, May 9, 2014, at
the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award represents significant contributions to
the local economy, and to the objectives, and aims of the Garden City
Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, A 1999 graduate of Garden City High School, Lisa Smith has
always had a love of fashion; upon her graduation from Fordham Universi-
ty in 2003, Lisa began her illustrious career in fashion as a shoe buyer
for Bloomingdale's where she gained priceless experience during her
four-year tenure; and
WHEREAS, Determined to pursue her dream, and with the support of her
parents, Lisa Smith left Bloomingdale's to open her own boutique; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Smith is the Proprietor of the Coquette Boutique, a
hometown boutique offering residents and surrounding fashion followers a
trend driven and convenient place to shop in an inviting and chic atmos-
phere; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2007, Coquette Boutique has introduced
many new lines and expanded its accessory and jewelry selections; and
WHEREAS, In the summer of 2012, Lisa Smith launched the Coquette
Mobile; housed in a 1966 Airstream Trailer, Coquette's fully functional
traveling boutique was unveiled, matching the chic feel of the store-
front and offering a petite selection of the flagship which travels to
beaches, fairs and even house parties; and
WHEREAS, Staying on top of trends and styling customers is a true
passion for Lisa Smith and she plans to stay a fixture in Garden City's
shopping district for years to come; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Lisa Smith has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lisa Smith has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lisa Smith upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Business Person of the Year Award by the Garden City Chamber of
Commerce on May 9, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lisa Smith.
