LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dory Alport upon the occasion of her
selection as a Young Professional Up and Comer in the Business Community
by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young adults within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Dory Alport has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dory
Alport upon the occasion of her selection as a Young Professional Up and
Comer in the Business Community by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
WHEREAS, Dory Alport, owner and operator of A. Alport and Son, was
selected for this esteemed recognition for being hardworking, ambitious,
and creative; and
WHEREAS, Representing the fourth generation of family ownership in
running the Fallsburg, New York, 78-year-old A. Alport and Son plumbing
and heating wholesale business, Dory Alport relishes being part of a
tradition; and
WHEREAS, Growing up in and around her family business, Dory Alport
began working full time for her parents more than 20 years ago; her many
duties and responsibilities included inside sales, and showroom sales;
and
WHEREAS, Expertly in tune to her customers' needs, Dory Alport contin-
ues to grow her business while always remaining true to the mom and pop
business model, and focuses on personalized sales and exceptional
service; and
WHEREAS, A 1994 graduate of Fallsburg High School, Dory Alport earned
her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, and went on to
obtain a Master of Business Administration from the University of New
Hampshire; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Dory Alport serves on the Board of
Directors of the Hudson Valley Builders Association, is the acting chair
for the Town of Fallsburg Architectural Review Board, and is a board
member with the Sullivan County Workforce Development Task Force; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she works directly with the One Stop Center,
BOCES, and various other non-profits in hopes of aiding in the develop-
ment of a competent and qualified workforce, and jobs for her area; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband and business part-
ner, Jay, who feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in
her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dory Alport upon the occasion of her selection as a Young Profes-
sional Up and Comer in the Business Community by the SULLIVAN COUNTY
DEMOCRAT; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dory Alport.
