LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ethel Kagan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob
on May 11, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Ethel Kagan has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ethel Kagan
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Congre-
gation Beth Abraham-Jacob, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on
Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ethel Kagan has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A beloved member of the Albany Jewish community her entire
life, Ethel Kagan began her steadfast community involvement many years
ago at Junior Daughters of Abraham, part of Congregation Sons of Abra-
ham; and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, Ethel Kagan, along with her husband, the late
Myer Kagan, dedicated their professional life's work to providing both
spiritual and physical sustenance to the synagogue and community; and
WHEREAS, Ethel Kagan has been a mainstay at Congregation Beth Abra-
ham-Jacob, and serves as a long-standing member of the Board of Direc-
tors; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ethel Kagan has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, A loving mother to her four children, Barbara, Risa, Todd and
the late Faye, Ethel Kagan is also a proud grandmother and great-grand-
mother; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Ethel Kagan has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ethel Kagan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob on May 11, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ethel Kagan.
