LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Wilma Machover upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition at the Hoff-Barthelson Music
School's 25th Annual Festival of Contemporary Music, "Celebration 2014:
The Music of Our Time"

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
leaders in music education whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing programs and professionals, and who distin-
guish themselves through their ability to inspire their students to
achieve excellence in musical performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Wilma Machover upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School's 25th Annual Festival of
Contemporary Music, "Celebration 2014: The Music of Our Time;" to be
held May 12-18, 2014, in Scarsdale, New York; and
WHEREAS, Wilma Machover is the Director of Artistic Programs at the
Hoff-Barthelson Music School, and a member of its piano faculty; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable educator is the Founder and has been the
Music Director of the school's contemporary music festival, "Cele-
bration: Music of Our Time"; now in its twenty-fifth year, the program
has become an integral part of the Music School's annual Festivals in
Style, and features performances by students, faculty, and special
guests; and
WHEREAS, Under her aegis as Director of Artistic Programs, Wilma Mach-
over also created several educational programs designed to enhance the
teaching skills and methodology of music professionals throughout West-
chester County; and
WHEREAS, This supremely gifted music educator created the Summer Arts
Advisory and College Advisory to assist parents in their research of
camps and colleges for their children as well as the Practice Project to
aid parents in guiding their children's musical growth; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to creating opportunities for development for the
students in her charge, Wilma Machover developed an artistic collab-
oration between Aaron Copland House and the Hoff-Barthelson Music School
composition department which resulted in the annual HB Compose Yourself!
Project which encourages students to create original works worthy of
performance in the Music of Our Time Festival under the annual direction
of a Composition Fellow from Aaron Copland House; and
WHEREAS, Wilma Machover was the originator of the Hoff-Barthelson
Music Resource Center (MRC), which opened in 1995, and is a preeminent
music reference library for books, CDs, DVDs, audiotapes, and music
materials covering all periods of Western Music for instruments and
voice for all levels of expertise and technique; under her leadership,
the MRC has grown to include sections devoted to chamber music, ensem-
bles, musicianship, music technique, jazz and folk music and classical
music, as well as summer camp and college reference materials; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she is the author of SOUND CHOICES: GUIDING YOUR
CHILD'S MUSICAL EXPERIENCES, which is considered a definitive text in
the professional music education field; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Wilma Machover has
continually demonstrated exceptional skill and innovation as a musician,
instructor, and educational leader; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals whose commitment and creative talents have contributed to the
cultural development and enrichment of the citizens of the State of New
York truly merit recognition and applause; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Wilma Machover upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School's 25th Annual Festival
of Contemporary Music, "Celebration 2014: The Music of Our Time;" and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Wilma Machover.
