LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Nora Zinner upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th birthday of Nora Zinner of Wellsville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Nora Zinner was born on May 1, 1914, in Vienna, Austria, to
Dr. Franz and Marie Colmers; she attended a traditional German school
which included four years of elementary school and nine years of second-
ary school; after graduating at the age of 19, she came to America by
boat in May of 1937; and
WHEREAS, After settling in New York City, Nora worked as a secretary
for an export/import company where she met the love of her life, Dr.
Kurt Zinner, a cardiologist; and
WHEREAS, The couple learned that there was a shortage of doctors in
Salamanca, New York, and bought a Buick for $65 in order to travel to
the area; however, their car broke down in Wellsville, New York, where
the town was in need of a doctor, and Nora Zinner has lived there ever
since; and
WHEREAS, Nora Zinner took a job at the David A. Howe Library while
earning her Master's degree in Education from Alfred University; she
then began working at Wellsville Central School District as a teacher
for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Nora Zinner and her husband, Kurt, raised two children:
Peter and Barbi; they have been further blessed with two grandchildren,
Reed and Tate; and
WHEREAS, Nora Zinner enjoys skiing, golf, literature, and is a skilled
artist and pilot; she earned her pilot's license at the Wellsville
Airport, and has flown a few solo flights over the years; she has also
painted landscapes and still lifes for which she has won numerous
awards; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her smile, jubilance, and through the charm and wisdom which
comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Nora Zinner upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nora Zinner.
