LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ruth Cromp upon the occasion of being
selected as Franklin County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ruth Cromp
upon the occasion of being selected as Franklin County's 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to
her community through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work;
and
WHEREAS, As Franklin County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year, Ruth
Cromp will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) at the Hart
Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Burke, New York, resident Ruth Cromp was born in 1939, and is
devoted to her family, which includes two sons, four grandchildren, and
six great-grandchildren; she was employed as a shift supervisor at Alcoa
in Massena, New York, then entered public service as a New York State
correctional officer, retiring in 2009 after almost 22 years; a woman of
diverse interests, in 1985 she bought a 25-acre hobby farm and raised
heifers for several years; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Cromp is committed to making a difference in her commu-
nity; for more than 30 years, this dedicated woman has been volunteering
in the Burke Fire Department as an Auxiliary Member, and she also serves
her town as an elected Town Council Member; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Cromp also uses her considerable energy as a volunteer
for the Burke Adult Center with the Meals on Wheels program, where she
brightens the day for the seniors and the staff alike; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Ruth Cromp's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ruth Cromp upon the occasion of being selected as Franklin Coun-
ty's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ruth Cromp.
