LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Doug Kenyon upon the occasion of his
induction into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional coaching accomplishments and generous volun-
tary leadership captivated the hearts and minds of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Doug
Kenyon upon the occasion of his induction into the New York State
Basketball Hall of Fame, at a ceremony held in his honor on Sunday,
March 16, 2014; and
WHEREAS, For many years, the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame
has inducted players and coaches who left their mark on the game during
the weekend of the State Boys Basketball Tournament; this year, they
have selected Doug Kenyon who has directed the tournament successfully
for most of its 34 years in Glens Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, A career educator, coach, and administrator, Doug Kenyon
became Director of the NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball Championships in 1990;
2014 marks 25 years of his able leadership; and
WHEREAS, Concurrently, Doug Kenyon served as Director of the State
Federation Tournament of Champions until 2011; and
WHEREAS, Doug Kenyon worked unsparingly to enhance and enrich the
experiences of tournament participants and spectators, endeavoring to
assure each tournament was special; his vision and energy produced
sustained success, growth, and accolades for the events; and
WHEREAS, As a longtime Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at
Glens Falls High School, Doug Kenyon worked to enhance and broaden pupil
opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Earlier in his career, Doug Kenyon was a teacher, and the
varsity basketball coach at Hudson Falls High School, claiming over 100
wins during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Athletic experts like Doug Kenyon provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Doug Kenyon has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of Glens Falls, as well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Doug Kenyon upon the occasion of his induction into the New York
State Basketball Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doug Kenyon.
