LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tonya Ores upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tonya Ores
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Woman of Valor
Award, to be celebrated at its 7th Annual Men of Distinction and Women
of Valor Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, As an expert in the New York City non-profit community, Tonya
Ores is known for her initiation of strong collaborative relationships
that help to create new programs and services that positively impact the
borough of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Tonya Ores is the Senior Executive Director of Neighborhood
Housing Services of East Flatbush; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Tonya Ores joined the Neighborhood Housing Services
family, and since then, she has held positions such as, Senior Loan
Officer in Neighborhood Housing Services of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Director
of Homeownership Education for Neighborhood Housing Services of New York
City, and Program Director in Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond
Hill; and
WHEREAS, Tonya Ores been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, An affordable housing advocate who is very active in her
community, Tonya Ores serves on the Advisory Board of Carver Community
Development Corporation, is a member of Community Board 18, and a Board
Member and youth mentor of the Glorious Church of God In Christ Interna-
tional where she was very instrumental in implementing their sound
financial policies; and
WHEREAS, Post Super Storm Sandy, Tonya Ores has been extremely
involved in the Disaster Recovery work in Brooklyn, and has been instru-
mental in obtaining resources to stabilize communities; and
WHEREAS, Tonya Ores attended Medgar Evers College, and the University
of Phoenix, earning degrees in business management and public adminis-
tration; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tonya Ores upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tonya Ores.
