LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy upon
the occasion of its 22nd Annual Spring Gala to be held May 20, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations which have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy upon the occasion of its 22nd Annual
Spring Gala celebrating young voices and new music to be held Tuesday,
May 20, 2014; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy will recognize
the exceptional contributions of Peter M. Meyer, President of the New
York City Market for TD Bank, and Bryce Dessner, Founder of the Brook-
lyn-based indie-rock band, The National; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1992, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus began as the
dream of a young music teacher, Dianne Berkun, who believed all children
should have the opportunity to sing and have the training to do it well;
and
WHEREAS, One of the finest choral programs in the country, the Brook-
lyn Youth Chorus Academy's founding principles are artistry, diversity
and community; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy's core mission has always
been to train its singers with the care and expertise needed by young
voices; and
WHEREAS, The talented youth of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy are
singers of great versatility, praised for a dazzling range of breathtak-
ing sounds; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy's choir has
grown from singing in neighborhood auditoriums to performing in famous
venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center; and
WHEREAS, As the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy branches out musically,
it proudly continues to honor the rich community it reflects and serves,
and is eager to carry on its efforts for years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy upon the occasion of its 22nd
Annual Spring Gala to be held May 20, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy, and to the aforementioned
honorees.
