LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ella Fitzgerald upon the occasion of her
retirement after 32 years of distinguished service to the Otisville
Correctional Facility
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ella
Fitzgerald upon the occasion of her retirement after 32 years of distin-
guished service to the Otisville Correctional Facility to be celebrated
at a dinner held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Colden Manor, Spruce
Lodge in Montgomery, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 32 years, Ella Fitzgerald of Summitville, New
York, rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Otis-
ville Correctional Facility as a mail room clerk; and
WHEREAS, A true legend, Ella Fitzgerald received accommodations for
intercepting contraband in the mail room, and preventing it from getting
into the Otisville Correctional Facility; and
WHEREAS, This dedicated and willing woman is the longest tenured mail
room clerk in her department; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her four children, and she is
the loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as mail room clerk for the Otisville Correc-
tional Facility, Ella Fitzgerald served with loyalty, honor and
distinction, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Ella Fitzgerald was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ella Fitzgerald upon the occasion of her retirement after 32 years
of distinguished service to the Otisville Correctional Facility; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ella Fitzgerald.
