LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gyneth Elaine
Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 8, 1938, in St. Albans, Vermont, Gyneth
Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge graduated from Castleton State College in
1960; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge married,
and taught third grade at South Burlington Central School before leaving
Vermont in 1964; and
WHEREAS, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge moved to Amsterdam, New
York, and after many years of teaching in public schools, she trained at
the New England Montessori Teachers Education Center, and reopened the
Montessori School of Amsterdam, which she owned and ran for 16 years;
and
WHEREAS, In 1979, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge joined the GFWC
Century Club of Amsterdam, serving as its president twice; she has held
many positions on the GFWC New York State Board, along with being the
Fourth District Director; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge formed a GFWC
Juniorettes Club of the Century Club, and rose through the ranks of the
State offices before she became GFWC New York President from 2000 to
2002; and
WHEREAS, After her term as president, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Tal-
madge was the GFWC NGO to the United Nations for three different terms,
and served as GFWC Middle Atlantic Region President from 2010 to 2012;
and
WHEREAS, Today, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge is on numerous
community foundation boards including Baptist Health Systems Board and
Foundation, Sok Nam Ko Educational Exchange Foundation, and Antlers HOA
Board, just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge has been the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades including Zonta International Outstanding
Service Award, Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow twice, YMCA
Co-Citizen of the Year Award, Herbert Singer Community Service Award by
the Chamber of Commerce, First Liberty Bell Award, Elks Mother of the
Year, United Way Hall of Fame, GFWC New York Clubwoman of the Year, GFWC
New York Jenny June Award, and the GFWC 2008 Empowered Woman Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge published a
biography about her husband, THE WAY BACK HOME, with her aunt, and has
enjoyed over the years hosting 17 exchange students from around the
world; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, until his passing,
and their four children, as well as five grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge
devoted to improving the quality of life for others, enabling them to
build lives of dignity and self-worth are deserving of the highest
praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge upon the occasion of her desig-
nation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon
an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gyneth Elaine Hogaboom Ko-Talmadge.
