LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming
Poverty Ministry Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating its Seventh Anni-
versary, and paying tribute to the 2014 honorees
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those renowned organizations that devote their energy, resources and
thoughtful care to improving the quality of life in their communities;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry Inc. upon the occa-
sion of celebrating its Seventh Anniversary, and to pay tribute to the
2014 honorees at its Annual Awards Dinner which was held March 1, 2014,
at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty (UPOP) Ministry
Inc., founded under the visionary leadership of Nellie B. King is a
non-profit scholarship program for economically disadvantaged girls who
are graduating high school; and
WHEREAS, This program helps to fund their continuing education at a
college or trade school; and
WHEREAS, Once girls are selected for financial support by UPOP Minis-
try Inc., Board members provide mentoring, career development, community
involvement and culture appreciation for at least three sessions during
the their first semester; and
WHEREAS, To date, 10 out of 17 girls have graduated from college and
are gainfully employed; financial assistance has supported these college
students and continues to support others; and
WHEREAS, Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry Inc.
honored 50 women throughout Western New York; its 2014 theme was "Cele-
brating Women Touching the World" in honor of National Women's History
Month, and The Honorable Mayor Lovely Ann-Warren of Rochester, New York,
was the Keynote Speaker; and
WHEREAS, The 2014 scholarship awardees were granted $1,000 in finan-
cial support and they included: Deja L. Thompson, Deaira McMillon, Leah
White, Takeisha Ewing, Sade Wallace and Janae Adams; and
WHEREAS, The UPOP Ministry Inc.'s 2014 Honorees were women of leader-
ship from all over Western New York; exemplifying a diverse group of
professionals, they included: The Honorable Mayor Lovely Ann-Warren,
Tracey Bolton-Adams, Lisa Alexander, Cheryl Alston, Kimberly L. Beaty,
Pastor Loretta Brooks, Marquita Iberia Bryant, Morgan Williams-Bryant,
Paulette Chatman, Dr. Ramelli Choates, Tashuna Colston, Treneeka Cusack,
Esq., Leah Daniel, Tyra G. Dennard, Chaka Edwards, Christine Farrow,
Rahwa Ghirmatzion, Mashia Grazes, Barbara Glover, Katrina Hunley
Jarrett, Brandi L. Hayes, Courtney M. Hayes, Pastor Rhonda Henderson,
Catrice D. Huff, Karen King, Whitney B. Kemp, Annie Lewis, Dr. Keli-Ko-
ran F. Luchey, Jerry L. Linder, Tamara L. McMillan, Antonette Nevins,
Candace D. Morales, Brianna Pride, Dolly Michelle Randle, Jacqueline
Robinson, Ebony Ross, Marion Slaughter, Gizelle Stokes, Denise D. Sweet,
Jo Ann Sweat, Natasha M. Whitfield, Danielle Gates-White, Janel W.
Whiteside, Joyce Sylvers-Williams, and Dr. Tonja M. Williams; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations which enhance the well-being and vitality of the community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry Inc. upon
the occasion of celebrating its Seventh Anniversary, and to pay tribute
to the 2014 honorees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry Inc., and
the aforementioned honorees.
