LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joel Berlin upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by North Shore Synagogue on June 7,
2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give of
their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to
benefit the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joel Berlin, upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by North Shore Synagogue; he will be honored at its Journal Dinner
Dance 2014, on Saturday, June 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Joel Berlin is being recognized for his dedicated and exem-
plary efforts as a member of the Merger Committee during the joining of
North Shore Synagogue, of Syosset, New York, with Temple Beth Elohim, of
Old Bethpage, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joel Berlin and his family were active members of Temple Beth
Elohim for 38 years, serving the congregation in many capacities;
throughout his membership, this distinguished man served as either a
member of the board or vice president, and he also served twice as
co-chair of the rabbi search committee; and
WHEREAS, Joel Berlin is the founder and President of Jared Funding,
which provides working capital for small businesses; he is a former
employee of Montgomery Ward where he worked for 23 years, leaving as
national merchandiser for men's apparel, and he also worked as President
of the Marc Alpert Shoe Company, President and Chairman of Sperry &
Hutchinson, and Senior Vice President of Empire Insurance Group; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Rita; their children,
Eric (Janinne), Adam (Doriz), and Daniel; as well as their grandchil-
dren, Alex, Lea, Matthew, and Joshua, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its rich historical past and up to the present
day, the North Shore Synagogue has been sustained by the beneficent
efforts of countless congregants such as Joel Berlin, who have generous-
ly supported their temple with abundant kindness and good deeds; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joel Berlin upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by North Shore Synagogue, noting his unremitting commitment,
ceaseless devotion and spiritual resolve; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joel Berlin.
