LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carol Maraj upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the King of Kings Foundation Inc.
on June 7, 2014
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Carol Maraj has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Carol Maraj
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the King
of Kings Foundation Inc., to be celebrated at its Black Tie Awards Gala
on Saturday, June 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Carol Maraj is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The
Carol Maraj Foundation, which provides support for women and children
who have suffered domestic violence; she earned a Bachelor's degree in
Liberal Arts and Human Services from La Guardia Community College in
2004; and
WHEREAS, A long-standing advocate for housing, employment, public
assistance, and health care for families affected by domestic violence,
Carol Maraj, through her Foundation, helps to provide individual and
group counseling for battered women, as well as assistance with safety
planning and shelter placement in crisis situations; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Carol Maraj, the Foundation
offers programs such as groups to handle domestic violence issues and
help for families dealing with drug and alcohol addiction, childcare
volunteer programs, and support for children who have witnessed domestic
violence; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Carol Maraj leads the Foundation's workshops on
domestic violence, parenting, and understanding diversity and disability
rights; she also researched and produced a guide on pregnancy and
parenting for disabled women; and
WHEREAS, Carol Maraj has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Carol Maraj launched the Dolls Up Program, which
offers self-image improvement to battered women; she was Chairman of The
Caring Sharing Project in Queens, New York from 2004 until 2012, provid-
ing crisis intervention in domestic violence situations within the
community; and
WHEREAS, A survivor of domestic violence, Carol Maraj has dedicated
her life to raise awareness of domestic violence issues; she is commit-
ted to helping families recover from abuse, and women to reintegrate
into society through job-training and self-empowerment; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Carol Maraj has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Carol Maraj has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carol Maraj upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the King of Kings Foundation Inc. on June 7, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carol Maraj.
